Why Social Media? Patrick ran for social media because he believes that we are at a point in our society where social media has more power than people think. It allows us to more effectively spread information so massive amounts of people can get info. His goal has always been to put Detroit Mercy Dental at the forefront of social media for dental schools so all everybody hears about is Detroit Mercy, Detroit Mercy, Detroit Mercy. There is a reason for this and it all stems down to basic human psychology and how we percieve and process things. The more we see or hear something the more we believe it to be true or the more likely we are likely to buy something. Think about advertising and how people buy products. You consistently see or hear about subway you are more likely to by that compared to their competitor that you don’t really hear about. This works the same way for dentistry. If your potential future employer, post grad program etc continuously sees Detroit Mercy when they open up social media, then that name registers in their head. They start to formulate, subconsciously that Detroit Mercy is all about dentistry and the students are probably better at dentistry, or at the very least they associate Detroit Mercy with a love for dentistry. That only serves to help EVERY student at this school. Whether students want to believe it or not, they will all utilize social media to brand themselves and grow their practice. The only thing that matters is are you going to start late and or when you can still more easily differentiate yourself from your competitors. I want to help students use Detroit’s social media platforms to allow them to do so.
Fun Fact: Patrick likes to read a little bit everyday because the average person reads one book a year, but the average CEO reads 5 books a month. Let that sink in when you choose how to spend your free time.
